How to dispose of Non-Working or Abandoned Vehicle, Boat or Travel Trailer
If you are the owner and have title in hand, skip to Peninsula Auto Wrecking and Salvage below.
If you are NOT the titled owner of the vehicle, then Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (360) 385-3831 must be called. They will come out and issue a report that it’s been abandoned. There’s a two-week waiting period for the owner of the vehicle to be reached. If the owner is deceased, the family must also try to be reached. If no one claims it after two-weeks, then the Sheriff’s office will issue an Affidavit and release the vehicle to the property owner so it can be disposed of.
Here is the Sheriff form that needs to be completed. Junk/AbandonedVehicle(jefferson.wa.us)
Peninsula Auto Wrecking and Salvage
(360) 379-9404 in Port Townsend.
You must have the title or an Affidavit from the Sheriff first. Once that is done, they can then pick up and dispose of the vehicle. If the vehicle is a completely intact (not parted out) there is typically no charge for the towing as the metal recycled from it usually makes it a wash in the end. They can haul off boats but there is a disposal charge if it’s not metal (such as fiberglass) as they will have to pay to have the non-metal disposed of.
